Organic strategy, the lost discipline in digital marketing and how to fix the problem

Organic strategy vs. paid: there are countless marketing tactics available to help you stand out in a crowd, but these are the two major forms of marketing. While nothing beats introducing clients to your business in a natural way, with ad budgets down in cost, competition for organic reach is up. The greatest brands will be the most creative in order to stay on top.

What is organic strategy?

Organic marketing generates traffic and recognition through natural, authentic, and value-based strategies, rather than using paid methods. Examples include blog posts, email blasts, user-generated content, Facebook updates, unpaid tweets, etc. - anything that raises brand awareness through social media, SEO, and a range of other methods.

The organic strategy doesn't mean not spending any money. You continue to invest in your marketing strategy, but you do this without paying to boost content.

The decline of organic strategy

Paid adverts are slowly monopolizing the marketing industry on social media sites.

According to the 2022 Social Media Industry Benchmark Report by RivalIQ [1], brands saw less organic engagement this last year. Declining engagement rates on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram indicate that social media is increasingly becoming a pay-to-play space.

The dwindling of organic interaction indicates that social media algorithms are getting more difficult to beat. Unless you have paid marketing under your belt, your business is doomed to social media obscurity. Or is it? Even with sponsored advertisements, high-quality content and a sound organic strategy are essential for increasing online engagement.

How to fix your organic marketing strategy

While the organic strategy doesn’t necessarily defeat paid advertising it is becoming more impactful and can certainly help brands and businesses grow.

There are many ways to generate more leads and convert more customers with easy organic marketing strategies.

1. Engage your employees

An active group of brand supporters that routinely interact with your posts and share your material on social media can boost your overall organic reach. And where better to hunt for brand champions than inside your own organization?

According to the Edelman Trust Barometer [2], potential customers trust a business's employees more than CEOs, journalists, and celebrities. Internal stakeholders are sincere and accessible, which humanizes your brand, so getting your team involved in distributing your content on social media can win you more than just improved organic reach.

You're likely to find that some of your staff, aka your ‘internal influencers’, have extensive personal or professional networks, so you'll see an increase in organic reach and engagement when they post your brand's content on social media.

Ensure employees connect with all company social channels - Set this up as part of their induction process. Ask staff to follow all your social accounts and engage with content meaningfully; that means long comments, liking, sharing, and tagging friends. Ask all of your employees to invite their online connections to follow your brand’s social accounts.

Celebrate your employees - A spotlight campaign will yield results like a spike in shares and likes. Staff from a different country should create an uptick in viewership from that region.

Keep staff up to date on company news - Use effective internal communication platforms to share announcements and content that employees can share on all their social channels.

Use DMA software, like Aesir X DMA, to organize posts - Set up a content submission process so that all employees know what to share and when. Get your social media marketing leader to add projects and campaigns to their Digital Marketing Automation (DMA) calendar to help coordinate all posts, and alert employees to engage.

2. Grow your social media using a DMA platform

Some of the work involved in social media marketing is repetitive, physical labor that relies on data entry. A digital marketing automation (DMA) platform eliminates the need for some human interaction making the process much more efficient and allowing you to focus even more on your organic strategy.

For example, say you’d like to expand your reach on social media and share your blog post across various social platforms. Instead of writing your post, copying and pasting the content to each social channel, you can automate this procedure by using a tool (such as AesirX DMA) to distribute the content across numerous platforms on a scheduled timetable.

This saves time and resources, boosts ROI on staff costs, improves the staff experience, frees up employees for more creative marketing activities, and can dynamically scale your business.

3. Create evergreen content from the start

Evergreen content is designed to remain relevant and attract traffic for months or even years at a time. Create a content bank of blogs, videos, and podcasts on topics that people will find interesting for years to come. For example, what do people always want to know and therefore will always have a healthy number of people searching? How to write a blog.
Best ways to lose weight. To come up with the correct ideas, you'll need to conduct research particular to your sector and audience.

You can even repurpose work - make infographics or short-form videos to suit particular platforms. Store these in your DMA or DAM (digital asset management) platforms and they can work for you when you don’t have anything else to publish.

Short-form content is not only easier to develop and disseminate, but it also receives more than double the amount of interaction as long-form material (except YouTube) [3].

Evergreen content continues to bring value to your readers long after you've published it. It offers various organic strategy advantages, including less work for you, increased traffic, SEO improvements, and distinguishing you as a specialist in your field.

4. Make user-generated content

User-generated content (UGC) refers to any type of content created and published by users based on their own experiences, views, ideas, or comments, and includes photographs, text, videos, posts, reviews, and so on.

On two fronts, UGC is important for brands and should be part of your organic strategy. The first is to create a dynamic and active community with material that your target audience enjoys, and the second is to adapt to the new "socially-dependent generations" that are gaining significant purchasing power.

According to data [4], user-generated content has emerged as the most reliable, influential, memorable, and freely available source of material for marketers.

Add in some prizes or run a contest, and you’ll get extra engagement, build trust, extend your reach, and grow your community, all at a more cost-effective price in comparison to the production of traditional marketing material.

Also, if it suits your brand to do so, highlight the greatest user material from around the web on your own social media or other channels while crediting the original originator (user) can easily rack up thousands of likes.

5. Use software to get more organized

The various options available for marketing management software indicate just how big this trend has become. Using tools and AI to support your organic strategy by allowing you to build up your content in a more methodical way.

A digital marketing automation platform, for example, helps to create, plan, distribute, and optimize content as well as organize workflows. To be successful with organic marketing, all departments must be united around the needs of the customer. As a result, it's critical to identify bottlenecks in content development, find out how to get things done faster, and notify leadership about where they can help.

The goal of the organic strategy is to cultivate a devoted and genuine audience. You can show off your personality and explain your genuine aims and ideals by producing relevant information and communicating with your members on a regular basis. More important than ever, you can fully utilize your marketing efforts by using content optimization and organic methods using a DMA platform to turn organic visitors into paying subscribers.
